It was Lady Gaga who famously said: ‘Love is like a brick. You can build a house, or you can sink a dead body.’ I remember having written a poem once that talked about love being like a few bricks thrown up in the air and two of them come down together as an attempt to build a home. Well, there is certainly a lot of poetry in homes and a search for the right home. Birds and animals too do it all the time.
Let me tell you the strange story of the weaver bird. The female of this species sends out a message that she is ready to home in with a willing male and the males then start a frantic race to weave a home. The female then pompously (I’m sure the word exists in their vocabulary) flits from one to the other almost complete nest and chooses one that suits her fancy. The wonderful thing about weaver birds is that they enact this entire drama without access to websites, apps and real estate agents! But then we are humans and obviously different, aren’t we?
Humans are really different. I mean, you can’t expect males from our species to go on building DIY homes and then search for the right partner to choose to spend their lives with them. This is probably because we are more evolved and have access to the right websites and apps that help a couple take the right decision. In fact, couples sometimes wait for years to make the right decision. For instance, if I wish to buy property in Delhi, I have plenty of options. The trick here is to reach out for the right guide who is both a friend and a philosopher! You know there are so many horror stories of people getting trapped by unscrupulous sellers and agents who show you only the greener aspects and then you are left holding a liability for all your hard-earned savings. It is safer never to be trapped by such gimmicks.
Obviously, when I am searching for a property, I’d want to make sure that the fiscals fit in neatly with my dreams. I mean, if I want my flat or apartment to be in a block that has features like a swimming pool, a gym, adequate security, and comes with a comfortable EMI, this is precisely what I need to look for. I really must have the option to choose what I want to be a part of my decision. Thus budget, size, location, amenities, and possession details must be a real-time value with an option to juggle options freely. I may want the block of flats to have access to a park, a restaurant, a badminton court or I may want a tennis court, a sauna, lifts, and a club house. I may even want all these close to the plots in Delhi that I am searching for.
As I was mulling over all these complex details, I happened to stumble upon the #HDFCRED website and the details there quite literally won me over. I experienced a certain logic in the way it hand-held me to take the right decision. This consumer-friendly portal from HDFC Developers Ltd is quite different from the other players in the market and whatever I discovered is surely going to make them the undisputed leaders in offering the most appropriate housing solution to us. Home buying and real estate must never be mere buzz-words to earn a quick buck and then hide behind complex and obfuscating laws to hoodwink honest and simple buyers. I am no weaver bird and collecting bricks and mortar and a whole gamut of accessories to convert a house into a home isn’t possible for me to accomplish alone… no, not even when I have the support of Specky, my wife. I am just like hundreds of other buyers who are constantly on the look-out for the right advisors for choosing the right home.
‘What else is vital?’ asked Specky as we clicked and browsed through that website, minutes before she left for her college where she teaches mathematics.
I looked carefully at the page that was open and said, ‘Well, they have everything on an app as well. Android for you and iOS for me. We can continue our browsing even as you sit a few miles away.’ She smiled as she picked her bag and the car keys and walked out.
To tell you the truth, the apps as well as the website were easy to log into and navigate but what endeared us to this developer is the fact that they also allow you opt for a home loan which takes away a lot of monetary hassles that accompany a pricey purchase like a house or a plot.
We do not yet know if we will take the final plunge or not, but we are surely having a gala time with various permutations in choice that the developer allows and then discussing the merits and demerits of the best options culled out for us from more than 24,000 properties that they already have in their database. There were special deals also… but then, come on, you need to do your browsing on your own, right?
