Every morning when we walk
We walk without headphones in our ears
We walk without our mobiles singing to us
We walk neither faster than we can
Nor slower than we should
Every morning when we walk
We sometimes talk
Not about the crime in the country
Nor about what will make the news today
We talk about what we did yesterday
We talk about what we might do today
We talk to find togetherness in words
Every morning when we walk
We take the same path and yet
Find it so different and so full of newness
Every morning when we walk
We let some silence come between our words
We let distance create these silent breaks
This doubles our joy when we match steps
Every morning when we walk
We see the ones who we meet every day
Will they always remain familiar strangers?
We see those who come and wonder at
All the morning charms they have missed
We are overtaken by alert huffs and puffs
But are we all really awake?
Every morning when we walk
We let impressions come in to stay
We let ideas flutter in and hide somewhere
Just as we love to breathe in air
We hope new thoughts stay and grow
To become strong enough to come out
As a family of connected sentences
That has something thoughtful to say!
Every morning when we walk
We allow our world to change just a bit
For we know that even small bits of changes
Are what make life so full of energy!
