It’s time to celebrate the Press Freedom Day!

Inaugurating the “Press Freedom Day” celebration at the PTHQ at Indore, Mr. Sandeep Manudhane, CMD — PT Education, emphasized on providing complete freedom to the media and made a strong case against imposing any sort of restrictions on it. He said”Press freedom is freedom of information. Lack of the right information is ignorance and does not have the power to take us forward on the evolutionary plane. Nation building and social causes need fearless communication and we need to salute the efforts and the people who initiate them! We need to salute their spirited efforts to promote peace, harmony, and human rights.” Apart from Mr. Manudhane, several other speakers too shared their views with the gathering present.

The activities of the occasion included group discussion, which is a part of the MBA entrance exam process, extempore, debate, skits, and press freedom related information. The topics around which these activities were conducted, included:

  • Government policy on the media
  • Freedom of the press vis-a-vis print media
  • What are the limits of freedom of expression in films?
  • How does the high penetration of the electronic media affects freedom of expression?
  • What does ‘Press Freedom Day’ really mean?
  • A photograph is worth more than a thousand words. How?

All the guests and participants were unanimous on the view that the Press Freedom Day be given nationwide awareness and reminded Governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression.

Concluding the event Mr. xxx thanked all the guests and announced that “ The Press is considered to the Fourth State of democracy. And on the vibrancy of Indian polity and press, PT Education has decided to felicitate excellence in journalism and communication on Press Freedom Day from the next year onwards by setting up awards.”
