“A journey to watch Aurora Borealis or the Polar lights… to wonder how fast-moving, electrically charged particles of light stage a virtual battle with the Earth’s magnetic field & then sigh, be joyous, despondent, arrogant, & even miserable by producing different colours & hues. They do this emotional drama by interacting with different gases in the upper atmosphere. It is said that some of the luckiest views can be had near the town of Svovaer in the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Finland and Alaska are among the other sites… and if I’m lucky, I’d be able to visit them all at some time in my life… and then write rhymes on the entire drama, photograph this amazing phenomenon and also spread the joy through my blog posts. I’ve read that the Aurora Borealis activity happens when the extended summer days are over… it is then that the area above the Arctic Circle comes alive. By the way, if in Tromsø, I’d also want to cruise Norway’s fjord-lined coast aboard a Hurtigruten ship and get wake-up calls to head out on the deck when the lights appear.”
Well, travel is neither easy nor is it cheap. So a lot of us look for opportunities where travel comes as a prize… and some willingly write about their experience or blog or take pictures and all this, in turn, makes that destination known. The above paragraph is what I wrote for the Condé Nast India portal where they declare that they “will make one of these journeys come true.
