To cling or not to cling was never a choice
She did it all the time in action and voice

‘I’ll go with you’ or ‘We’ll do this together’
Even in hot, horrid, and sultry weather

Even when I was in my own thoughts far away
She wanted me near her each moment every day

To cling or not to cling was never a choice
She did it all the time in action and voice

Who is ‘she’ you might want to know now
And if she is still here with her persistent bow

Yes, she is here but you’ll guess wrong my friend
Because she is to me a lyrical trend

She is a song on the radio and the way it clings
Makes my writing ideas say: ‘This man only sings!’

You know then why these clingy songs I hate
As my writing ideas fly away. They never wait.
