Review of Vivo V11 Pro

Sunset from our flight from Mumbai to Delhi_clicked on Vivo V11 Pro

The other day I asked a friend to list all the things he expected from his smartphone. He hummed and thought for a while and then said, ‘Everybody wants a phone that gives more for less. MORE obviously includes the design to be as smart as the others, display that is both clear and works well in all light conditions, camera that has AI to assist in clicking pictures that will get him likes on the social media, audio that doesn’t let in hisses and other noises to merge with the sounds that he wants to hear, dual SIM because he thinks this is essential, a large memory to make it easy for him to carry his pictures, movies, and songs with him all the time, and an up-gradable memory because he thinks this is what a phone must come with.’ He then hummed a bit more and added, ‘It shouldn’t be expensive.’

‘What do you think AI does in a smartphone?’ I asked.

‘I don’t know,’ he said, ‘but everyone seems to be talking about AI and so this is what I want my phone to have.’

I then asked, ‘Do you even know that the Vivo V11 Pro has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE Octo-core processor? Do you know what this means?’

‘No. But it sounds complex enough to be impressive,’ he replied sheepishly.

A few more incisive questions like if he knew what Amoled meant, or why he wanted an upgradeable memory if the phone already had 64 GB of internal memory, or what he felt about a fast charging battery, or if he knew anything about phone security… and it was clear that the Indian user of mobile technology had, at best, a dumb acceptance of whatever he was handed over and was completely sold out on the hype surrounding any launch. This is pathetic. The Indian phone user needs to first upgrade his knowledge quotient about technology or he will continue to buy the latest and use it like he was using a past generation device.

It is said that 70 percent of innovative technology in any mobile device remains unexplored and unused. This simply indicates that our bloggers and our YouTubers are not concerned about what a user needs to be given and are busy making videos or writing texts that are either just a repetition of specifications in their own words or are forever using sales-oriented language to impress the manufacturers and the PR agencies. At worst, a lot of them are just copying the press releases sent to them… and I do see this a lot in so many social media updates.

Vivo V11 Pro_the smartphone that harnesses AI to make you happy

The #VivoV11Pro, let me at the outset, is an affordable charmer. This smartphone is like a memorable poem for the technology enthusiast, a great piece of prose for the cost conscious buyers, and a remarkable non-fiction essay for the travel and photography instincts of any user. This phone comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a dual-SIM, and a 6.41 inch full-HD+ super amoled display with a waterdrop style notch on top. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE Octa-core processor runs along with AI catalysts and the 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage with a triple card slot facilitating an upgrade up to 256 GB is sure to turn on genetically inspired smiles. The camera technology had been trudging upwards for long now and this phone has 12mp + 5mp at the rear and roaring with AI scene recognition. The front camera is a large-hearted 25mp AI-embedded selfie creator with face unlocking that works smoothly even in very low light conditions. The 3400mAh battery that charges speedily adds to the value of this phone. The other features of this phone in a nutshell means that it comes with Halo full-view display and a bigger aspect ratio leading to immersive viewing experience, a camera with a fast focus of 0.03 seconds with a short refocus feature that changes focus from background to foreground and vice versa which is brilliant, and the camera also has AI portrait framing where the camera guides a user to the correct composition, AI face shaping mode, the AI selfie lighting that also has a monochrome background effect besides a range of others, infra-red face recognition is there besides other forms of phone security measures, fun mojis for those who love such things, a seamless gaming mode, and dual engine power charging… and the list goes on seemingly endlessly. There is MORE of everything in this phone.

Let me move on with explaining what the processor specifications really mean. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor comes with Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP, Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU built on ARM Cortex Technology, and Qualcomm® Hexagon™ DSP with Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX) and these are the reasons why this phone is able to support most of the high-end features that it boasts of.

The Spectra component in the processor, for instance, communicates with the camera module and determines focus speed, image quality, low-light capture ability, smoother zooming in videos, and makes security authentication better. This is why the V11 Pro has a sound face recognition ability, goes around to give a user features like short refocus that I have already mentioned, and results that inspire. When smartphone processors mention a Kyro CPU, they are talking about performance and efficiency and it is believed that making use of ARM’s licencing option means that Qualcomm stays ahead of other processor manufacturers. The Qualcomm Hexagon does all the AI math powerfully, focuses on machine learning and is also called the neural engine inside. Thus we have AI-backed selfie lighting in the V11 which means that the light will be strong enough to enhance a picture and not wash it out completely in a brainless burst. The camera in this phone guides a user to correctly compose a shot through AI input which is fine, though I do not agree to this all the time as I want my picture to look like I have imagined it to look. But for most users, this is certainly a boon.

Armed with this information, any user can now confidently look with insights as he browses through the specs of other phones and can come up with a better decision. The user always needs to make informed decisions and must never be over-awed by promotional hype that goes around all over the net these days.

Statistically, Vivo has the credit of being the number 2 brand with 62 percent of market share… and with launch it is poised to move ahead with speed. Impressive numbers apart, the user reactions and responses to their line of smartphones has been lively as was obvious during the launch. But what is more important for us all is the fact that these phones will be made in the Vivo factory in Greater NOIDA… which is good news for the ‘Make in India’ fans. Users and buyers of smartphones need to start understand their devices better because without this they would hold a complex gadget in their hands and treat it like the version that existed a decade ago.

Pictures clicked with the new #vivov11pro tell me how well integrated with new technology this smartphone is. Let me add that a good camera isn’t the only thing that this phone comes with as there are a host of features that are just as impressive. I’ll be writing about those features in my review later. This post is more of a teaser before the launch to show that this phone from @vivo_india is ready to take on the giants in the industry. The pictures here have all been clicked in my room in the #GrandHyatt #Mumbai and converge to show the low light performance of the camera, the clarity in details, the care that is obvious for the light and dark hues, and the way truth gets resonated in the attempts. These pictures have not been treated in any photo-enhancing app and are what the phone camera decided is the best. #photography #photo #lowlightphotography #vivo #travel #travelblogger #travelholic #hyatt #grandhyattmumbai #pictures #smartphone #smartphonephotography #technology #unlocktheamazing
