Fusion in poetry is a reality today
Bhelpuri with nachos khate hue this came to my mind:
Arre, because only in masaledaar thoughts can you find
The poetry of ideas apni original shape mein
Unpretentious, uncompromising, and never unkind.
‘Bhasha se gaddaari is the worst sort of crime,’
It said aloud following some Hinglish rhyme,
‘Write as you think or writing isn’t worth a dime.’
‘Dime?’ I asked, ‘using dime is like a firangi mime
Doing Kathak wearing stilettos and an evening gown.’
Bhelpuris with nachos ne mujhe diya ek ugly frown!
Aaj ka sach hai an expression that mixes languages
Similar to chapatis wrapping chutney aur sausages
And as those puritans of literature gasp in disbelief
Thousands of readers give smiles of heavenly relief.
Ab toh ads mein bhi English fifty percent use hoti hai
English news channels par Hindi bhi boli jaati hai
Obama aur uske baad Trump also say Namaste
A bindi is used by fashionistas with a Western sway
So come on, mix and merge, fuse, and experiment
Give poetry an uninhibited joy and a meaningful bent!

Thank you, Ruchi… frankly, I think there are too many people writing complex poetry which actually puts off the less literate ones like me. 🙂
