Learning. Invention. Rejuvenation. Expertise. Responsibility. These would remain wild and whirling words, sometimes used as the foundation for concepts, if practice and a strong-willed adherence to their spirit isn’t adopted. Another such word that is no longer just a concept in books, articles, and of course, the dictionary, is Kyosei. Kyosei signifies ‘living and working together for the common good’ is a rather sound principle for Corporates weaving their way through success. In fact, Kyosei goes along with the spirit of learning, invention, rejuvenation, expertise, and responsibility to harmonise theory with practice.

‘How do Corporates weave their way through success?’ asked a friend during a press launch, ‘I mean, companies are after all a bunch of humans who come with their own different perspectives and ideas and may walk in different directions.’

I told this friend that a bunch of humans believing in giving the best would normally walk in about the same direction and at a similar pace. And if product research, training, and other infrastructure are aggregated under one roof, Kyosei becomes a learning and inventive reality. I then added, ‘Let me illustrate my point with an example. You’ve heard of Canon, right?’

‘Yes, who hasn’t.’

‘Well, Canon has CTEC or Canon Technical Excellence Centre in Noida where excellence in infrastructure stimulates excellence in work focus and excellence in strategic inquest into what a consumer wants. It is a fallacy to assume that a consumer is primarily interested in the final product because aware consumers understand and can identify expertise and responsibility when they see it. Canon obviously aims to win over consumers by following Kyosei.

‘This sounds impressive,’ said my friend, ‘and I’m interested to know what really happens at CTEC. And how are they able to manage the complexities of their massive product range from a single centre.’

Well, CTEC was inaugurated in late Dec, 2016 by Mr. Kazutada Kobayashi, President & CEO Canon India and its primary purpose was showcasing strong technological capabilities & long term commitment towards Indian customer. For this, Canon ensured a built-up area of more than 40,000 sq ft because the centre had to have world-class technical facilities to deliver technical know-how to its vast service network.

Like all wonderful concepts, Canon was prudent enough to divide all functions into clear divisions in a way that they complimented each other’s needs and helping each other unify seamlessly. As my friend was giving looks of disbelief, I had to add, ‘Training, repairs, and demonstrations happened flawlessly because the facility had recycling, e-waste disposal, air-purification, water purification, energy saving, and a genuine concern for the environment synergism.’ I paused and then went on to tell my friend that these simple principles converging invariably meant that operational costs plummets, work ethics stats zooms up, and efficiency, productivity, and compliance converse congenially. All this results in consumer joy and the cycle goes on with greater stability.

Such concepts are simple enough because they can be explained even by a layman through clear flow-diagrams and during one of my visits to the centre, one of the experts there did just this. A walk around helped all the flow-diagrams super-impose themselves over the activities as my eyes saw and realized that Canon wasn’t dealing with wild and whirling words but workable truth. The camera repair centre, for instance, has Asia’s longest dark room, measuring 33m in length and covering an area of 2192 sq feet. Lens adjustment of Up to 800mm can be carried out in this room and an entire range of Canon DSLRs, lenses, projectors and broadcasting cameras are repaired on this floor. This is the sort of humming homogeneity visible on every floor.

My visit to the rejuvenation centre was an utter pleasure because this is where business process machines brought back from the field are refurbished… and the ones that are irreparable are recycled or scraped as per the government norms of e-waste disposal. The Toner Refilling Plant on the ground floor includes a high-tech compression Plant to maintain the quality of air. The point that I am making is that functionality has sustainability surrounding it and this is what makes the centre worth being written about.

Of course, there are other sections like the demonstration zone where you find the HD Photo Zone where high-end commercial products like Dream Labo, Oce & IPF Pro Printer are kept for training & demonstration purposes. There is then the training centre where training is imparted to Service Engineers, BIS IDC Partner Engineer & Managers (CASE) and the Repair Center for CSP & BIS products. This is where Inkjet and laser printers (warranty or DOA cases) are repaired. The truth is that without the sustainability inclusions, the more market-oriented segments would have found it difficult to exist without conflicts building up every now and then. As I have pointed out earlier, it is facets like solar panels on the rooftop, ROs for water purification, LED lights for energy saving, and effective e-waste disposal that come together to dissipate human-machine conflicts where they have an opportunity to raise their head. You can view Premier Improvements Solar here.

Kyosei is thus all about functional prowess and not just another complex bit of jargon used to camouflage inadequacies and inconsistencies. Learning, invention, rejuvenation, expertise, and responsibility are in some ways the pillars on which Kyosei stands. Kyosei is all about a willing convergence of concepts with practice.
