The selfie world out there…

Yes, you’ve read the title correctly… it is indeed a selfie world out there, though a selfish world appears equally appropriate. From the PM to the peon we are all aware of what a selfie is and how best to click one. We know all about the correct angles and the politically correct expressions to give. We also know that the best place for a selfie is the social media and so we’re all there. And yet there are so few selfies that get attention. There has to be a reason for this anomaly.

Yes, sure there is a reason for not all selfies getting the right attention. A selfie with Gul Panag or our PM himself will obviously get us all the eyeballs we ever dream of… but the rest of us need more than just the urge to get on to the selfie bandwagon. We need a selfie phone… or if I may go a bit further and specify a selfie smartphone.

‘Are they different?’

Well yes, a selfie phone will need a fair storage capability with scope for expansion, a powerful LED flash, good camera mega pixel performance, better than expected display features, inbuilt camera features, and inbuilt photo software or apps. And a selfie smartphone will go a step ahead and have LED flash capability for both the rear and front cameras…

What?

You heard right. LED flash on both sides will be such a boon for a selfie… no more dark and un-shareable images and no more struggles with dark patches and low light condition.

Is there really a smartphone that can be called a selfie smartphone? I surveyed the phones available and stumbled upon the Lava Iris X1 Selfie and was pleasantly surprised to discover the 8.0MP Rear Camera with LED Flash walking together with a 5.0 MP front camera with LED Flash. ‘Wow!’ I whispered and picked it up for a closer examination.

A closer examination revealed that the phone wasn’t just depending on a freak feature of having the LED flash lights placed on both sides but was a charming device with Android Lollipop v5.1 and a 11.53 cm or 4.5 inch IPS display that would not make anyone peer hard to just admire what has been clicked. The camera is equipped with F2.0 Aperture and the phone has the ability to record full HD videos at 1080p. Other Camera Features that impressed me included the Panorama mode, HRD Mode, Video Mode, Capture Mode (Smile, Gesture, Voice, Touch), Burst Mode, Beauty-fi Software for face slimming, Smoothing, Eye widening and whitening.

Let me add here that the Lava Iris X1 Selfie has an internal memory of 8 GB ROM that can be expanded up to 32 GB. The phone is wifi enabled, works well with 3G too… though I’d ideally have wanted it to have 4G capabilities too. But then, I guess the company will take care of this in the next version. For now I am pleased with the 16M colour display and the right to password protect my pictures.

But let us come back to the selfie culture that we were talking about… so if you have a phone that is as selfie-smart as the Lava Iris X1 Selfie, then your work stands a good chance of more ‘likes’ on the social media than all the pictures of all your friends put together. This is precisely what will make you selfie smart with a selfie smartphone!
