HR is the best Achaar – a lesson in writing with conviction
by Arvind Passey on Jan 31, 2016 • 11:54 PM No CommentsThis happened a long time ago… this happened when I was heading corporate communications and was, therefore, responsible for the copy that was to be given for a recruitment ad. So I walked into the cabin of the HR head and was literally surprised to see that they were having a PEPPY ‘achaar’ party.
Achaar party! Yes, the room was pregnant with the pungency of pickled spices and I was about to turn back when I was invited to join and taste a bit of HR! I did… and I guess that the copy that I finally wrote for that recruitment ad that sought HR employees reflected quite a bit of this.
Managing people does not happen when talent is bottled up! Just as ‘achaar’ spices up taste and is able to manage gastronomic pleasures only when it is out of the bottle. And like a military unit, Achaar always has impact outside its own unit. That is when it strikes the enemy at the sources of its military, economic or political power!
If it is so true for the alimentary canal,
It has to be equally true for the elementary operations within an organization.
Organisational indigestion can lead to… by now, you know what all!
The answer is obvious.
Tactical impact at the local level makes HR the best Achaar!
If you are the one who can strategize the plans made or the actions taken in an effort to help the organization fulfill its intended purpose, we need you.
If you can create and embrace tactical initiatives of programmes, products or functions that have a major impact on reaching departmental or functional goals, you need to contact us.
If you can spice up
people to function better
if you can strike
the enemy at the source
come out of the bottle
like that genie called ‘achaar’
then be the one to walk-in or contact
immediately!
Remember: Achaar is great only outside the bottle, and HR is the best achaar!
Yes, the copy of that PEPPY ad is right here for you to read. However, I must admit here that one secret of good text is to feel and experience the texture of whatever it is that you are intending to write. Let me give an example. If it is trekking or travel that you intend to write about, you can possibly do this only if have actually gone out and travelled on your own. I don’t mean the sort of travel most youngsters in India are accustomed to… that is, travel with our parents. That is enough to give you only a small part of the huge dose of adventure that travel really is. Travel isn’t about staying in comfort all the time or having all problems solved or obstacles tackled by your father or mother… travel is all about coming face to face with some seemingly unsurmountable issue and having the grit and resolve to solve it. So once you’ve done all this, you can possibly write about it all with conviction.
