Spark. Touch. Passion. Chemistry. In 2014, sitting in my Study, my mind easily links such words to a smartphone. And then a person like me gets into the complex matrix of terms that include amoled screen, processor, quad pro, octa pro, app density, and user interface to murmur later, ‘Life is nothing without a bit of technology, right?’
Wrong.
Because even as I wrote the first paragraph, Specky, my wife, came along and gently held my face in her hands as she stood right behind me. Had I been Garfield, I’d have purred. All I actually did was to allow whatever there was in my mind, to disappear… and letting my body go limp, I said, ‘This feels nice!’
Nice.
So yes, even a cursory touch can be extremely powerful. We have all experienced this power at some time or the other… in one or the other form it adopts. The funny thing about a touch is that it wakens up slumbering moments and asks them all to fall-in for a roll call. Yes, a touch is more like a Commanding Officer of a Company, though it hardly ever summons moments in a harsh piercing voice. It murmurs softly… and moments come running to it obediently.
Obedience.
A touch, I believe, is like an experienced dog trainer. It looks into your eyes and softly commands an action. You have no option but to obey it. No, it never shouts or bangs its head or abuses or gesticulates wildly or gets on your nerves or roughs you up. It simply says. Calmly.
Communicate.
Without putting everything in words, a touch just states: Come-for-unification… which is the same as communication. A touch can transcend time and distance and reach out through the ages… and who knows, even travels from one birth to another… to tell you that you are not alone. It tells you that you are not lost. It helps you discover and re-discover life.
Discover.
Well, sailing on this boat called ‘touch’ you are nothing less than an explorer. You reach out to yet undiscovered nooks and corners of life… and you also revisit those moments and events that had once held you spell-bound. Yes, a mere touch can show you how you had converted a scintilla once into a massive conflagration. It holds you by your hand and takes you on a walk-through where you get an insider’s view on your own methods. Yes, a touch teaches you what you already knew. A touch isn’t either the teacher nor is the student. It is a mere facilitator and it does its job quite well. It tells you in all humility that you were the master and you continue to be it. It also reminds you that a future without the eccentricities of touch can be doomed.
Future.
Of course, that’s what vision is all about. A touch lets you have eyes on the back of your head so you can travel backwards, pick up lost lessons that you thought you had forgotten… and it also gives you a vision for the future and helps you ease into it. So a touch is like a crutch, a helper, and a nurse.
Go ahead and touch yourself, your spouse, you children… go ahead and touch technology… go ahead and touch topics and subjects that people are afraid to touch… go ahead and touch a friend to tell him that you are there… go ahead and touch an enemy to communicate that you bear no ill towards him… go ahead and touch a stranger to say that we are all one family in this universe… go ahead and touch space and say: I know You are there somewhere, Lord. A touch is a powerful tool that we have… why forget to use it?
