Rob Schneider, the 1963 born stand-up comic and veteran of the NBC sketch-comedy series Saturday Night Live has so much in common with the Black Dog 12 YO Scotch whisky.
The Wikipedia points out that ‘in Schneider’s movies, the main character often undergoes some type of transformation, be it an unlikely career change, or a supernatural or science-fictional transformation. This formula was spoofed on the satirical animated television series South Park, in the episode “The Biggest Douche in the Universe.” (The title refers to television psychic John Edward, and not to Schneider. In the show, trailers are shown for a series of movies that feature Schneider undergoing absurd transformations: a stapler, a carrot, and even the South Park character Kenny.’
Asked about being parodied on South Park, Schneider responded in an About.com interview: “I loved it. That was genius. I thought the only thing, they were too nice to me…When you’re spoofed by the best people in the business, that’s an honor.”
I’ve always found Rob’s brand of humour full of a lot of vanillic sweetness which makes him so similar to the taste of Black Dog 12 YO. Just spend some time watching the words and the expressions of Rob and you’ll know what I’m talking about… his transformations range from being robust malty to mellow woody – and everything is so BD 12 YO-ish about him. There is a certain complex yet delicate aroma of sherry and vanillic sweetness with whispers of soft peatiness in the background that makes him reach out to everyone with an immediacy that any good scotch too does!
Rob’s shows too are almost like the BD 12 YO that are beautifully rounded, heavy bodied, pronounced malty, and mellow woody with a tinge of fruity sweetness and a teasing light warm peat! Now who wouldn’t find such a combination luxurious and exciting? The experience is long-lasting and warm and, if I may say so, with a touch of cream!
Let me share something very interesting about Rob Schneider that I find so similar to BD. Schneider once wrote, “Patrick, I can honestly say that if I sat with you and your colleagues at a luncheon, afterward, they’d say ‘You know, that Rob Schneider is a pretty intelligent guy, I hope we can do that again.’ Whereas, if you sat with my colleagues, after lunch, you would just be beaten beyond recognition.” Now, what this really means is that Rob has a very BD-like robust-malty sense of humour that packs in a lot of punch that is complex, delicate, and teasing all at the same time! Now what can be a better comparison to BD 12 YO than the inimitable Rob?
