This picture is of the Kungri Gompa in Pin Valley in the Spiti region and was clicked when we were there in October 2012. It was cold… very cold… and we were here on our way from Dhankar and going to Demul. We’d be at 15000 ft soon and the rarefied air was making walking difficult.
As we walked towards the Gompa I looked up and clicked. What I saw was what a biscuit company would call 50-50, a philosopher might define it as an example of yin-and-yang, and the monks in the Gompa will nod their head and whisper: ‘The good and the evil.’
I’ve loved this photograph ever since as it brings back all the talk of Gods and demons that I have heard in my life, the protectors and the protractors, the public and the politician, the innocent masses and the scamsters… this picture represents them all.

I do hope the ‘lovely’ from you is for both the photographer in me as well as the writer in me. 🙂 Thanks.
