Being smarter has everything to do with giving the customer what he wants… is the marketing mantra that doesn’t need an endorsement from Kotler. And being smarter is all about anticipating consumer needs or being proactive in a world that has competitiveness built into it. So we have smarter authors who write what the reader would readily buy, smarter politicians who make pre-poll promises that are vote-getters, smarter websites with all their marketing SEO components you can start to understand by reading at https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbesagencycouncil/2021/05/14/how-long-does-seo-take-and-why/… well, why must tablets then not be smarter?
Tablets are certainly smarter now… at least those that have read all the needs of the user and decided to add the calling feature in them. So the smarter tablets that I am talking of are call-ready. Some of them, in fact, have made space for a dual sim as well. These are tablets that are not the 10 inch monstrosities that we were once so accustomed to… I mean, look at laptops and the way they have started playing on the 11 to 14 inch screen size and a weight that makes them so desirable to be carried. After all, even these laptops have to compete with tablets that are getting smarter. There is a literal war going on in this segment… between laptops that are losing weight, smartphones that are getting bigger, and tablets that are now saying, ‘Hey! I am a phone as well!’ We do not know who will win the battle finally… but the probability is that the laptops and the smartphones just might kowtow to the calling tablet!
So what exactly are these calling tablets? Well, these tabs are the ones with a 7 inch screen and they come with sim-slots… sometimes for dual sims. The screen size obviously makes them reasonably fit to be carried without the exhaustion that sets in with carrying even the smaller screen laptops. Moreover, these tabs are geared to function in both Wi-Fi as well as 3G, they give consumers the advantage of GPS, Bluetooth and even HDMI connections. This obviously means that the tabs can be connected to large screen LED TVs at home if you want to watch movies that you’re carrying in your tab. The storage space is generally sufficient and is expandable as well.
A friend asked, ‘Why should I opt for a calling tab if I have a smartphone and a laptop?’
I said, ‘Well, why lug a few kilos if you get everything in a few hundred grams? Moreover, why spend tens of thousands of rupees if you can get the essence of two gadgets in around ten thousand?’ I waited to let these vital facts sink in and then added that calling tabs also come with the benefit of a good camera and so carrying a camera separately is also ruled out. And interestingly, it isn’t just one or two manufacturers offering calling tabs. There is a wide choice offered by Lenovo, Samsung, Gionee (for instance, their GPad G3), Asus, Karbonn, Spice, Vox, Videocon, Devante and so many others… in both a variation of features as well as price.
I guess we are still evolving so far as convergence in technology is concerned… but at this juncture, a calling tab does answer a lot of consumer needs.
