You’re obviously intrigued by the title. I’ll let you know the secret of the title but only later on in this article. What matters more is to know how to walk in the world of image mysteries or walk out of a world of image drudgery.

‘How to walk in or walk out?’ asked Specky, my wife, waited for a few moments and added, ‘my first impulse was to respond by mentioning feet. But I know you don’t mean feet. Is it shoes?’

I must say it is hard to beat a woman’s intuitive abilities when it comes to guessing anything that is even remotely connected to style statements. I nodded an agreement and told her that shoes make all the difference to a man’s personality.

‘Oh! I thought you were going to suggest that we go out and buy some latest footwear for me,’ said Specky with a naughty twinkle in her eyes.

‘Buying footwear is what we can do anytime,’ I replied, ‘what matters more though is which ones to buy.’

Well, I’ll limit myself to talking about shoes for men as I think we all spot more men wearing atrocious footwear nearly all the time. They tend to take ‘being casual’ to totally ridiculous heights. One does find them walking in a party wearing Oxfords and some days in Duckboots to office. Sneakers can be casual but stubbornly sticking to worn-out and completely frayed sneakers is something that men are fond of doing. Mothers, sisters, girl-friends, and wives periodically throw out men’s shoes that they think have lived their lives twice over… but then this is what we all already know. What we men need to know is that the world has created a lot of shoe-types for different occasions and that the right sort of shoe does make you the carrier of a powerful style statement… and your share of #fame.

Yes, you can SELECT your STYLE or you can make STYLES go on and ELECT you… and if you haven’t noticed yet, STYLESELECT is the word that includes both these logical style philosophies in a single converged word. So with this task done, let me add on that Chukkas and Loafers and Sneakers give you a massive range to pick and choose from for your casual outings. You have work boots, Oxfords, Brogues, and numerable other styles to choose from the formal range of leather shoes. You have the option to go for Chacos, Tevas, Keens, and Berkenstocks for those warm summer months where the feet smile appreciatively if you are wearing them.

This post obviously isn’t claiming to give you an encyclopaedic view of all the types of footwear that is available for men… all I am trying to say is that with so many different styles out there, you do not necessarily have to go round and round in circles of confusion. I believe that knowing, learning, and adopting style is a mix of how you are able to tame your style intuition… and help you do this are people with an enhanced SQ or Style Quotient. Some of these style evolved personalities are, of course, a part of the #fame Lakmé School of Style and then there are other options open if you’re the sort who goes and learns things by trying them all out and waiting for glances of disapprovals from other shoppers in stores! I guess it is easier and faster to go with a well-defined school for awareness of the latest trends in fashion, especially if it has a fashion brigade led by Editor-in-Chief, Karan Johar to give you all the fashion news, views and events from all over the world to the internet screen.

But then we’re on shoes right now… and wanting to know just that bit more about them to make us rise above absolute shoe illiteracy! Riaan George talks about his shoe fundas in a video and all I can say is that besides the Lakmé School, you do have the innumerable videos and blogs on the internet that are constantly talking about style… browse through them, read them all and make your choices intelligently.
